Most Kentuckians enjoy a good slice of pie, but finding something fresh can be a challenge. Going to the supermarket and picking up a frozen pie is completely different than something homemade. Supermarket deli pies often cannot touch the mouthwatering goodness of something baked fresh with a little love and good ingredients. Kentucky is blessed when it comes to good pie, as we have some restaurants that are dedicated to providing an incredible pie eating experience each and every time.
Here are 10 places to enjoy mouthwatering homemade pie:
10. Rick's White Light Diner
The diner at 114 Bridge Street in Frankfort doesn’t look like much on the outside, but it’s the inside that counts. The food is fresh, and the pie is really good. In this diner, if you haven’t ever experienced the warm, creamy goodness of oreos prepared their special way, they are a must try. Deep Fried Oreo is something most of us have been missing in life… and you will find yourself missing them after having tried them once.
9. Whistle Stop
This local favorite at 216 E Main Street in Glendale has some great food and desserts. All of their pie is good, from fruit to creams, but the Sugar Cream Pie is to die for. This melt on the tongue pie is something that one can easily become addicted too. Be prepared.
8. Ramsey's Diner.
This fresh food diner at 151 W Zandale Drive in Lexington offers a memorable experience for anyone who visits. The food is always good and the service is usually impeccable. When it comes to dessert, they really shine brighter than the other restaurants, offering some unique flavors and custom creations. The Butterscotch Pie and the Black Bottom Banana Cream are absolutely mouthwatering. Thought the servings are generous, you will find yourself craving more for later.
7. Patti's 1880's Settlement
A lot of people are familiar with this unique restaurant at 1793JH O’Bryan Avenue in Grand Rivers, and their delightful pies. Sawdust Pie is incredible and contains no actual saw dust. The Fudge and Chess Pies dissolve in your mouth. The lemon meringue is the perfect combination of sweet and tart with meringue no less than 3 inches tall. That is a common trait with all their meringue pies.
6. D Starnes BBQ
This great little place at 108 Broadway Street in Paducah is known for their flavorful barbecue and mouthwatering pie. If you’re a fan of chocolate, they have the best warm chocolate pie in three counties… at least. The coconut cream comes complete with toasty coconut on top and is unforgettable. You might even find yourself in an inner struggle about buying a whole pie or two on your way out.
5. Missy's Pie
This pie specialist at 502 E High Street in Lexington offers some of the best pies in the area. The creams are always dreamy, fruits are the perfect combination of tangy and sweet and the specialty pies are indeed special. If you're in this area, you will not want to miss enjoying a homemade pie from this fantastic pie shop.
4. Kentucky Silk Pie Company
This pie manufacturer at 330 South Gratz Street in Midway is a unique specialty pie shop. The Kentucky Silk Pie is rich creamy goodness that just isn’t the same as the ones you get in Kroger. Fresh is the real deal here, and it is well worth the trip to take one home.
3. Kern's Kitchen
This pie speciality shop at 2420 Ampere Drive in Louisville is the official home of the Derby Pie. The mouthwatering Kentucky favored Pecan Pie that is smothered in chocolate was trademarked in this kitchen. They have a variety of other delicious pies to choose from… but this is the go to source for the best Derby Pie in Kentucky.
2. Haney's Apple Dale Farm
This farm at 8350 W. Highway 80 in Nancy offers fresh and canned fruit, candy covered apples, jams, jellies, preserves, muffins, fried pies and baked pies. There is absolutely nothing you will find here that is not freshly made and completely mouthwatering.
1. Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen
All the young soldiers know where to get the best pie and ice cream, and that is at 2525 Bardstown Road. There is more than one location for this wondrously creative facility of homemade pies, ice cream, cakes and candies, which is good, as they stay busy. You can get virtually any type of mouthwatering pie you want with a dollop of homemade ice cream of your choice. The variety and flavor is unmatched anywhere in the state.
These are just a few of the pie stops across Kentucky. I do not know each and every diner that serves delicious homemade pies in the Bluegrass State, but I’d like to. I know that everyone probably has their own favorite place to get fresh baked goods, and I’d love to hear about them. Mind you, this excludes Grandma’s house, as I’m sure she wouldn’t want us all showing up expecting fresh baked goods. That being said, what is your favorite homemade pie, and where is the best place to get it?
