I Tried Louisville’s Best-Kept Ramen Secret: Ramen House
I loved the Shoyu ramen and casual, buzzing atmosphere at Ramen House in Louisville's Mid City Mall.
On Friday night, after a long work week, I crave comfort food. Hot, steamy bowls of ramen with noodles, rich broth, and vegetables fit the bill. I had heard through the grapevine that Ramen House in Louisville's Mid City Mall had some of the best ramen in the city, and I couldn't wait to check it out.

One recent Friday night, I walked up to Ramen House and couldn't believe the line of people waiting to get a seat. Thankfully, I wasn't in a hurry and had time to wait. I was also encouraged by the rave reviews other waiting patrons gave. As other first-timers entered the line and asked, "Is it worth the wait?" They enthusiastically agreed that the food was fantastic.
Just as my stomach started to rumble, a friendly hostess led me to a high-top bar in the back of the restaurant. It was a cozy spot, looking out at the mall parking lot and a vibrant orange sunset. The restaurant also had booths and tables for either two or four diners.

The menu featured appetizers like Spicy Pork Belly Buns, Gyoza, Spicy Garlic Edamame, and Bulgogi Buns. There also were many types of rice bowls and ramen. I ordered the Shoyu ramen with chicken, bamboo shoots, green onions, soft-boiled egg, corn, and chicken broth made with Japanese and Kentucky bourbon barrel soy sauce. The waiter explained that this dish and the Miso and Spicy Miso ramen were very popular.
As I waited, I noticed Ramen House's decor and atmosphere. There was Asian art and rows of Funko Pop! figures along the walls. The restaurant had a casual, bustling vibe. Food was constantly coming out of the kitchen, and guests were always coming and going. As soon as patrons got up, a staff member quickly reset the table and seated new guests. Ramen House is the perfect place for an informal, cozy date night.

My ramen arrived hot and steamy, with each component artfully arranged over a massive pile of noodles. I dove in, enjoying the savory, rich broth, thinly sliced chicken breast, and egg. I loved every bite. Next time, I plan to try the Pork Belly Buns and Tonkotsu ramen with pork broth; I saw others enjoying them, and both dishes looked delicious.
