Fall foods are fantastic, from apple pie with vanilla ice cream to pumpkin muffins and cinnamon-spice lattes. Apple cider donuts may be the best fall food; their apple cinnamon flavor pairs perfectly with crisp autumnal temperatures. When the craving strikes, Mulberry Orchard in Shelbyville, Kentucky, sells fantastic apple cider donuts.
Mulberry Orchard is a family-owned and-operated orchard and farm market in Shelbyville, a small town between Louisville and Lexington. Its owners, Amanda and Matt Gajdzik, planted fruit trees in 2010; today, over 4,000 peach and apple trees are growing in their orchard. They grow more than 20 varieties of apples, which ripen from early August to late October. The varieties include Summer Rambo, Cameo, Jonagold, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady.
The orchard sells apples to happy customers at its onsite farm market. Visitors can pick apples themselves at designated times of the year. The orchard also regularly participates in the Franklin County Farmers Market and Eastwood Farmers Market.
In addition to selling fresh produce, Mulberry Orchard sells many apple products and treats at its snack stand, the Mulberry Kitchen. My favorite treats are apple cider donuts. They also sell whole apple pies, fried apple pies, apple bread, caramel apples, and apple cider slushies! Mulberry Orchard is the perfect spot for apple treats!
In the fall, the orchard offers many kid-friendly activities. There's a playground with the Apple Mountain Slide, Grain Bin Corn Pit, Pumpkin Parkway Trike Track, and more. There are also basketball, football, ping pong, and tetherball games. Kids can also pick pumpkins, find their way through a corn maze, and visit the petting zoo with goats, cows, sheep, and rabbits. With so many fun things to do and delicious things to eat, the whole family will have a blast at Mulberry Orchard.
Mulberry Orchard prioritizes agricultural education and offers farm tours to schools. Visiting students learn about farming, take hay rides, pick pumpkins, and play at the orchard's playground.
