On the small island of Sabula, Iowa (yes, Iowa really does have an island!), there’s a little pizza place that has personality bursting out of every corner.
This restaurant is undoubtedly the quirkiest eatery you can find in Iowa. Plus, their food is pretty amazing, too.
To walk up to the building, you might think you’re stepping back into the sixties.
The outside of this ivy-covered brick restaurant is adorned with a yellow peace sign, in addition to other eclectic decor, like a giant pirate.
There’s even a hippie delivery van, a rusted, multi-colored van with a “Hippies Use Backdoor” sign on the side.
It gets even more interesting on the inside.
The restaurant is decked out with an array of decorations so eclectic as to defy description, with writing on the counters and ceiling and pictures, objects and oddities of every kind.
It seems like you could see anything in there, like a large wall-mounted marlin or a woodblock woman with a mustache.
There’s a hand-painted piano, adorned with whimsical patterns and multiple colors. The piano is tuned, and it even gets played.
Bombfire serves up mouth-watering wood-fired pizza with the freshest high-quality ingredients that are locally grown, when possible.
