There's nothing better than an ooey, gooey pizza pie, and some of the best pizzerias are the most unassuming. Here's a little family-owned pizzeria in Culver that serves pies so tasty that they just might be the best in the state.
You'll find Papa's at 824 N. Lake Shore Drive, in Culver. This family-owned restaurant opened in 1976, and quickly became known as the place to go for delicious pizza.
Now it's owned by a second generation, and it's recently had a makeover, but the pizza is the same as always.
Music memorabilia lines the walls here.
The original "Papa," Jim McCormack was originally a graphic designer who designed the first Beatles album cover.
The pizza here is really tasty. The crust is baked to perfection, the toppings are high-quality, and the sauce is seasoned just right.
You can choose from several specialty pizzas, or create your own. Try the Papa's Special, which includes sausage, pepperoni, ham, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, tomatoes and black olives.
The calzones are also yummy, and they come with your choice of fillings.
Papa's also has a large selection of craft beers to accompany your pie.
Save some room for dessert - you'll find a bunch of tempting items on the dessert menu.
Visit Papa's Monday through Friday from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm; Saturday from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm; Sunday from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.
