The Midwest is way into its comfort food, wouldn't you say? I would. Around here - and even dipping down south as far as Kansas City or MAYBE Texas (depending on who you ask) - it's not difficult to find mounds of the stuff. My personal favorite comfort food of all time is good, old-fashioned barbecue, and goodness, does Indiana have quite an array of options. Today, I'd like to shine a spotlight on a little barbecue joint in an unexpected place: Porkopolis BBQ, a barbecue restaurant inside a gas station that can't be passed up, serves up some of the downright juiciest ribs you'll ever taste. Don't pass this one by without stopping - to not stop would be to do yourself a disservice. Attention all lovers of barbecue restaurants in Indiana: this is one I encourage you to check out.
Porkopolis BBQ was originally opened in the east valley of Phoenix, Arizona, and has since moved on to greener pastures - namely, Indy.
And, honestly, I couldn't be more excited. Being from Phoenix, I tried the original Porkopolis. It was delicious. I was quite disappointed when it closed.
Imagine my excitement, then, when I learned that a new location opened here in Indiana.
Woohoo! A little taste of home that I get to share with my friends here, now. Lucky us.
And, truly, this is barbecue worth sharing... or perhaps telling your friends to get their own.
From the juiciest, most delectable ribs you've ever tasted to delicious brisket, chicken, pulled pork and more, Porkopolis is here for you to stuff your face. It's glorious, I promise.
Even the salads are awesome.
...of course, they're even more awesome topped with brisket, but hey, you do you.
This is a classic case of "don't judge a book by its cover", or in this case, don't judge a barbecue joint by its gas station.
The gas station in question is the Marathon just off of East and Mills - don't judge, just come in and experience it for yourself.
And great news! There's also a good truck.
So, you might be able to snag some excellent barbecue on the go - depending, of course, on where you and the truck both end up!
So, come for the ribs and stay for everything else.
It's impossible to regret.
