Your favorite cheese toasty has a new contender...
Gayle's Best Ever Grilled Cheese is open weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., serving breakfast and lunch varieties of the best grilled cheese in the city.
It has been at its current location since 2016, but Gayle's has an interesting history.
The business's conception began at Green City Market in 2010 where the owner, a cheese seller, met a fresh bread baker and butter maker and decided to start making grilled cheese sandwiches for hungry patrons.
You can get gourmet adult versions of this childhood favorite made just about anyway you want.
Each sandwich uses fresh-baked sourdough bread and locally-made cheese and butter, as well as other locally sourced ingredients (meats, veggies, and more).
One of the most popular grilled cheeses is "The Sebastian," which is made with cheese and lobster.
Patrons also enjoy the "Little Italy," with pepperoni, cheese, and garlic, as well as "The Blue Buffalo," which contains buffalo chicken and blue cheese. "The Classic," made with just cheese, starts at $7 with specialty sandwiches running as much as $16. Menu items include specialty sandwiches, drinks, and sides, so don't forget to try the cheese curds or tomato soup.
Some love these grilled cheeses so much, they cater them in for any number of events, such as graduation parties or corporate gatherings.
You can also find Gayle's sandwiches at the Foxtrot (take-and-bake) as well as during street markets like the Daley Plaza Farmer's Market.
Don't forget dessert!
It's hard to say no to these big, homemade cookies. They are always fresh and come in several varieties. Pair with chips and a grilled cheese, and you've got the perfect (adult) school lunch.
Whether you're looking for a hearty breakfast to start your day or something to get you through to the end, this sammich shop is your number one destination for all things cheesy. It's a Chicago must.
Gayle's is located in the city at 108 N State Street, Level B1, and you can get more information on its Facebook page or website.
