When a frozen treat is calling my name, I'm happy to live in a state with so many delicious dessert options. On a hot summer day — or heck, any time of the year really — I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. And a roaring appetite for the sweet stuff is nearly deafening at this beloved local ice cream shop in Amboy, Illinois that serves up some of the freshest homemade treats around.

Meusel's Dairy Delite, 303 S. Mason Ave., is a local family-owned ice cream shop located in Lee County in Northern Illinois.

It has been owned by the Meusel family since 1986, when George and Yolane Meusel began a new adventure into the world of frozen treats.

The family also owns a second location in Dixon, Illinois!

A connoisseur of cocoa, Yolane still uses her own recipe to bake all of the chocolatey, gooey brownies the shop serves — passing on the family history in each delicious bite.

Dairy Delite has also become locally famous for its inventive cone-dip flavors, like grape, cappuccino, mango, and lime.

Its Amboy shop is also home to the iconic birthday cake-flavored dip, perfect for a special occasion or just to celebrate a summer day.

Another signature sweet is the Buffalo Chip ice cream sandwich, which sees a tower of creamy vanilla soft serve smooshed between two classic chocolate chip cookies.

I'll take two.

Or how about a Trash Can Sundae inspired by Oscar the Grouch? Peanut butter, hot fudge, cookie "dirt", whipped cream, gummy worms, marshmallow, and candy eyes come together to turn that frown upside down.

You can also grab shakes and malts, candy-filled flurries, parfaits, banana splits, floats, slushies, and sugar-free, fat-free yogurt.
