Idaho's largest lake, Lake Pend Oreille in the northern panhandle, is a fabulous place to steal away for some R&R. Here, you'll find a few towns smattered along the shores of this picturesque oasis, as well as one of Idaho's beloved state parks, Farragut State Park, which is steeped in history.
Another spot that's been around forever is a little known destination restaurant called The Floating Restaurant in Hope.
Located at Hope Marina along Highway 200 on the western side of the lake, this landmark restaurant has been around for at least 35 years, dishing up a menu full of deliciously fresh seafood, steaks and even local game. In addition to driving to the restaurant, adventurous diners can also reach it via boat.
You may think a floating restaurant would look something like a boat. But not The Floating Restaurant in Hope. Take a look at the breathtaking interior that's filled with natural light and plenty of windows for sweeping views of the water.
Temps and weather conditions make the "season" here in northern Idaho at The Floating Restaurant in Hope run from Easter to mid-October. So this year's "season" has already ended.
But that doesn't mean it's too early to put this destination restaurant on your 2017 bucket list. And in just a few short months you could be sitting at one of these tables looking at the mountains and hearing the lake gently lapping all around you.
