This Might Be the Most Intense Food Challenge in Florida
Think you've got what it takes to tackle this epic food challenge? Learn why even the heartiest challengers have been humbled.
There are burgers, and then there are burgers, and if you're looking for the latter, there's one restaurant in Florida that shines: Teak Neighborhood Grill. We've highlighted this legendary burger joint before, but today, we're diving into what might just be the most intimidating food challenge in Florida. Unlike many food challenges that require you to eat at an alarming pace, this one tests your endurance against a towering burger—one that's so jam-packed that it could humble even the hungriest challenger.
Inside Teak Neighborhood Grill’s Famous Challenge
First, a little backstory on this iconic restaurant. Teak Neighborhood Grill first opened in the spring of 2010 in Orlando's MetroWest area. The founders had a simple yet lofty goal: to create a fantastic gastropub with a focus on high-quality burgers and craft beer. It wasn't long before word got out and Teak became synonymous with the best burgers in central Florida. The menu is famous for its creativity, with some burgers showcasing delightfully unexpected toppings. There's even one burger served with glazed donuts instead of buns!
The food challenge is another aspect that has put Teak on the map. Because these burgers have such a loyal following, challengers happily step up to the plate—pun intended—for what they assume to be another run-of-the-mill food challenge. But that couldn't be further from the truth.
What Makes This Food Challenge So Intimidating
Part of what makes this food challenge so intimidating is the fact that it's a bit misleading. After all, the burgers look delicious, so who wouldn't want to gobble them up? Plus, there's no extreme spice or anything else to overcome. But after a few bites, most challengers understand what they're up against: sheer volume.
We're talking not just one but two giant burgers totaling two full pounds of beef, 27 slices of cheese, 24 slices of bacon, two mozzarella rounds, four beer-battered onion rings, on a mountain of lettuce, tomatoes, chili queso, and jalapeños, all on a brioche bun. Oh, and don't forget the sides.
Rules, Time Limits, and What’s at Stake
The rules are simple yet daunting. You must complete the entire tray of food within 45 minutes. Also, it must be a solo effort, which means no splitting or sharing with a friend. And once you take that first bite, you must stay seated for the duration of the challenge. Drinks are permitted, plus as many condiments as you'd like. And while this all sounds nearly impossible, there have been some challenge winners. Think you could be next?
