The One Town In Delaware That’s The Next Ice Cream Capital Of The World
Delawareans know food. Our state is home to some of the most amazing restaurants you'll ever try! One thing we really do better than anyone else, though, is make ice cream. We're kind of an ice cream underdog - nobody would expect that Delaware's creameries are just as good as the ones you'll find in, say, Wisconsin. Our state might be a little obsessed with ice cream, because we'll line up even in freezing temperatures to get a cone of our favorite stuff.
You know, I firmly believe that it is never too cold for ice cream.
That just might be the Delawarean in me talking - because we're one state that takes ice cream seriously.
From cones, to cups, to ice cream sandwiches, we love our ice cream. And one town in particular is the best ice cream town I've ever been to.
Of course, I'm talking about Newark. You can find delicious, handmade, local ice cream just about anywhere in the city!
One notable location, Woodside Farm, has been a cornerstone of Newark and Hockessin life since it opened in 1796.
The creamery was added two hundred years later, in 1998. They've spent the last 20 years making up for lost time!
You'll find some of the freshest and most delicious ice cream ever right here.
Woodside Farm makes ice cream with milk directly from their own cows - so you can feel good about supporting a local, family-run farm while you enjoy your favorite sweet treat.Address: 378 N Star Rd, Newark, DE 19711In winter, they're open Wednesday and Friday from 3 pm - 6 pm.
If you've spent any time in Newark at all, chances are you've tried UDairy ice cream.
Made with milk from the University of Delaware's cows, you really can't get any more local than this! Their ice cream flavors vary seasonally, and they're always mouthwateringly good.
UDairy makes fresh cookies, too, and you'll have the best ice cream sandwich in the state right here!
No matter what flavor combination you choose, you'll love this fresh, homemade version of an ice cream sandwich way more than the gas station varieties we're all a little addicted to.Address: 535 S College Ave
Newark, Delaware.UDairy's flagship Newark store is open year round, Monday through Friday: 9 am -8 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 11 am - 8 pm
And of course, Caffe Gelato deserves a mention.
This main street landmark is known for its delicious Italian dishes, but the real draw is the handmade gelato that it's named after.
With dozens of flavors to choose from, you can create whatever combination your sweet tooth desires.
Gelato is a little creamier than ice cream and hard to get right, but Caffe Gelato has perfected the art.Address: 90 E Main St
Newark, Delaware.Caffe Gelato is open Monday through Thursday from 11 am - 9:30 pm. Their weekend hours are Friday & Saturday, 11 pm - 10 pm, and Sunday 10 am - 8 pm.
Visit Newark and try the best ice cream in town, and then head out on the Delaware Ice Cream Road Trip to put the city's creameries to the ultimate test.
