9 Scrumptious Foods You’ll Find At Every Backyard Barbecue In Delaware
Delaware summer barbecues feature iconic local foods like crab dip, steamed clams, and peach pie.
Summer is the best time of year to throw a backyard barbecue, and in Delaware, we really know how to have fun! If you've ever been to a Delaware party, you'll recognize these 9 iconic foods of the First State. Which one do you bring with you when you gather with friends or family?
There's nothing better than comfort food, so start off with a classic, time-tested recipe - crab dip and Ritz crackers.
It's likely that someone brought clams to steam, too, so you can get your taste of the ocean when you're close to the coast.
It wouldn't be a backyard BBQ if it weren't for hot dogs, right? Of course there will be some on the grill.
Right alongside the hot dogs, someone's bound to be flipping burgers. Maybe you can try to copy one of the Delaware Burger Battle champions.
Since we're so close to the bay, though, Delaware backyards always have some crabs to pick. We wouldn't have it any other way.
Delaware is one of the country's top producers of chicken, and we all learned how to fry it up right when we were young. Dig into a big, juicy thigh or drumstick as you chat with friends and family.
For dessert, we have Strawberry Pretzel Salad. This is certainly a Delmarva thing, because as soon as you leave this area you'll struggle to find it!
Of course, the official dessert of Delaware, Peach Pie, is likely to make an appearance, too.
And what do you wash it all down with? Well, a crush, probably. Whatever you choose to drink, it's almost certainly going to be served to you in a mason jar.
