Anyone from Connecticut knows it's a little gem in terms of restaurants and eateries. From hidden, local spots to culturally diverse cuisine, there's truly something for everyone (and every palate) here in the Nutmeg State.

To get you started, here's a list of 12 stellar restaurants in Connecticut to try—one for each month of the year.

1. January: Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant - New Haven

Connecticut has some great Ethiopian food. Lalibela in New Haven, in particular, offers a wonderful introduction to the cuisine for newbies and seasoned lovers alike. It's tasty and makes for an amazing comfort food that is fantastic for sharing with friends. This unique Ethiopian restaurant in Connecticut is open Monday to Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

2. February: Millwright's Restaurant - Simsbury

February is the month of love, and what better way to celebrate than by booking a delicious dinner at Millright's Restaurant in Simsbury? This cute rustic-style restaurant has a romantic, intimate atmosphere, and even has its own waterfall outside. Choose from an extensive wine menu, gourmet meals, and decadent desserts. It's certainly one of the more romantic spots in Connecticut; it's open Tuesday through Sunday at 5 p.m. and for Sunday brunch at 11 a.m.

3. March: That Breakfast Place - Willimantic

Sometimes you just have a craving for great breakfast food. The aptly named That Breakfast Place really hits the spot. From sweet cannoli cream French toast to savory meat and egg dishes, they've got it all. Come check out one of the downright best breakfast places in Connecticut if you're ready to get some cravings satisfied. Hours are Sunday to Monday, 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. (except Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

4. April: Olympia Diner - Newington

Nothing beats the experience of a good old-fashioned diner in Connecticut. We love Newington's Olympia Diner, which has been delighting Nutmeg State residents for over 50 years. Though not quite open 24 hours, the Olympia is open most of every day, and it's an awesome option for those late nights with friends when you're craving American diner fanfare.

5. May: Pontos Taverna - Norwalk

Pontos Taverna in Norwalk serves up authentic Greek food in a delightfully fun atmosphere. It's tucked away on a side street and can be a little difficult to find, so check out the directions and information on the restaurant's website for all the details about how to find it. Once again, this is a trip for the taste buds—one you're sure to enjoy! Pontos is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

6. June: Black Dog Bar and Grille - Putnam

If you're looking for fun, the Black Dog Bar and Grille has it in spades. This recently renovated spot has great portions and prices on its varied menu. You can pick up all kinds of eats here, from barbecue to burgers to salads and more. Or, grab a cold beer and sit back in a chair on the lawn. Hours are Monday to Wednesday, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Thursday, 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

7. July: Porky Pete's BBQ - Essex

We are blessed with many great barbecue restaurants in Connecticut. One you might not have checked out yet is Porky Pete's BBQ. It's a small take-out place that advertises itself as having the best BBQ north of the Mason-Dixon line. We're inclined to agree; this stuff is wicked good. Hours are Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Porky Pete's is temporarily closed, but it is slated to reopen on May 1, 2026.

8. August: Luigi's Restaurant - Old Saybrook

Luigi's specializes in Italian cuisine with an American twist. Its pizzas and grinders are legendary in the Old Saybrook area—the place has been open for nearly 75 years, and after just one visit, you'll know why. It's a delicious old-fashioned pizzeria in Connecticut like no other, and your taste buds are sure to thank you. Luigi's is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

9. September: ZINC - New Haven

ZINC New Haven is a chic, modern nosh spot featuring delicious farm-to-table American fare. Many of its dishes are Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-inspired, and there are plenty of amazing options to choose from. It's one of the most innovative restaurants in Connecticut. Hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Closed between lunch and dinner services.)

10. October: Union Kitchen - West Hartford

Union Kitchen in West Hartford is another bistro with sleek surroundings and amazing food. Their focus is on American food with European influences. They have a great little outdoor dining area for when the weather is warmer, so it's a great summer and fall location. This amazing little restaurant in Connecticut is a delight and a half. Hours are Monday to Thursday, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

11. November: Simply Bowls and Co - Watertown

Simply Bowls and Co. is a great option if your New Year resolves to try to eat healthier. They've got a heavy focus on nutritious, whole foods, fruits, and veggies. With plenty of gluten-free and meat-free options, there's something for everyone here. Hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

12. December: Edoichi Sushi and Hibachi Steakhouse - Wethersfield

Sushi is such a colorful and aesthetically-pleasing food. You'll find some of the best sushi in Connecticut at Edoichi Sushi and Hibachi Steakhouse. It's as visually appealing as it is delicious, which is saying a lot—the food presentation here is gorgeous. You won't be disappointed by the atmosphere and the taste. It's open daily until 10:30 p.m.
