You Must Taste The Pretzels At This Unique German Restaurant In Connecticut

If you ask us, German restaurants in Connecticut don't get enough love. We're well-known for New Haven's "Little Italy," the birthplace of Connecticut-style apizza, and we've got plenty of great Mexican restaurants. We even have some more exotic offerings, like Mediterranean and Ethiopian cuisine. But one type of international restaurant that doesn't get as much attention is German food. We've got an absolutely phenomenal (and authentic!) German restaurant in East Side Restaurant. Ironically enough, it's located in the city of New Britain, but one visit here will have you feeling like you've entered Germany! There are plenty of must-try dishes here, including wurst, spaetzel, and latkas, but the star of the menu is the giant pretzel. You won't want to miss these if you love this salty twisted breaded treat.

The East Side Restaurant has been family-owned and operated for more than 80 years. This place is absolutely magical, and feels like a trip to Germany (with no passport or plane ride required).

The restaurant is quite the experience - in addition to authentic German food, you can enjoy scheduled performances from master accordion player Walter Lawrence.

There's also a beer garden upstairs that's modeled after the famous Hofbräuhaus in Munich

There are so many great German dishes here that it's tough to pick one to try.

Of course, you'll definitely want to opt for a beer - it's the German way! Beer is served in 1/2 or full liter sizes.

The pretzels are good enough they could be a main course.

They're imported from Germany and their massive size means they're ideal for sharing.

Whatever menu items you choose, you're sure to go home full and feeling like you just visited Germany, without even leaving New Britain.
