Bar Bouchée is an upscale French bistro that is ritzy without feeling too uppity. The atmosphere is convivial and perfectly balances the line between neighborhood bistro and fine dining.
Owner and chef Jean Pierre Vuillermet grew up in the French Alps, where his family ran a successful restaurant for many generations. He dreamed of one day running his own small restaurant in America.
Reservations are required, as the restaurant is small and has limited seating (both indoors and on the patio).
They have a full bar with some great wine selections. The bar itself is made of zinc and was imported from France. It certainly adds to the authentic decor: visitors often remark that they feel like they stepped into a Parisian cafe!
The menu changes seasonally and is made up of the highest quality items, as you'd expect.
The presentation is beautiful, even for something as simple as a cheese board.
This appetizer is a popular one: the cheeses are selected by a local Madison cheese shop, and they're all locally-procured.
