"Casa Bonita! Casa Bonita! Food and fun in a festive atmosphere!" If you are a tried and true Coloradan, you have seen this iconic South Park episode more times than you can count, know the words of the song by heart, and have even endured the restaurant's long lines and - err, food - a time or ten, which makes Friday's HUGE announcement all the more exciting:
It's official: South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have announced that they will purchase the world-famous Casa Bonita after the restaurant's upcoming bankruptcy hearing.
After weeks of rumors regarding the purchase, Matt Stone (right) officially broke the news, sharing that “As of about an hour ago, pending bankruptcy proceedings that have to happen in a couple of months, we’ve come to an agreement with the owner, and we bought it."
Opened in 1974, Casa Bonita is a sprawling 52,000-square-foot restaurant that is arguably one of the most unique in America, thanks to its infamous menu, decor, and entertainment options.
Often referred to as the ''Disneyland of Mexican restaurants," Casa Bonita seemingly transports guests from the Mile High City to a resort in Mexico, which they do via palm trees and lights, a traveling mariachi band, and - of course - cliff divers who bravely leap off a 30-foot-tall waterfall!
In addition to the one-of-a-kind ambiance, Casa Bonita is also unique in terms of on-site entertainment, thanks to its old-school arcade, live shows, haunted cave, and mangy gorilla that chases guests around the premise.
Earlier this year, Coloradans were lead to believe that the Denver-area icon would never re-open due to both its financial trouble and long lunch line format.
What will change (besides, hopefully, the food) and remain the same under this new management has yet to be determined, but in the meantime, we are thrilled to see this "beautiful house" stay right where it is.
