Not everyone in Southern California considers themselves a foodie, but I think it’s safe to say that we all love food and discovering new, unique places to eat. It is no secret that this part of the country (and the state, for that matter) is a true melting pot of cultures and flavors, so it’s not surprising to find a wonderful French bakery in Los Angeles that will make your tastebuds think you are in Europe. The only thing that you might not see coming is how much you are going to want to keep coming back for more.
Pitchoun! Is an artisanal French bakery and cafe - family-owned and operated - in downtown Los Angeles. Traditional French family recipes are used to create simple, clean, high-quality baked goods that reflect the home and culture of the bakery’s owners, both of whom come from France and a heritage of food and baking.
Pitchoun is a term of familiarity and affection in French, like the English “kiddo,” and is a fitting name for an establishment based on family and tradition.
Traditional baguettes, croissants, and eclairs barely scratch the surface at Pitchoun! Try a rich, caramelized Cannelé, fruit tart, mini Nutella croissant roll, pavlova, black olive loaf, apple turnover, Kouign-Amann, or one of the many, many other mouthwatering pastries baked fresh every day.
You could grab a single pastry and a cappuccino and go on with your day, but I have to say that sitting down for a leisurely brunch is not only a much more European thing to do, but will allow you to enjoy so much more of what Pitchoun has to offer - from pastries to sandwiches to Eggs Benedict to French Toast (maybe we could just call it “toast” here).
One trip to this drool-worthy bakery and cafe is not enough - not when you find out that there are seasonal pastries (they only make what is currently in season!) and cakes like Tropezienne that, rumor has it, pairs amazingly with strong coffee and if you close your eyes, will whisk you off to Saint Tropez!
I don’t know about you, but bread is my happy place. What would be better than starting your day with traditional French baguettes, baked fresh and smelling like heaven?
Have you tasted any of the amazingness at this traditional French bakery in Los Angeles? Learn more about the cafe on the Pitchoun! website and keep up with what’s in season by following Pitchoun Bakery & Cafe on Facebook. The summer is ending and maybe a lot of us don’t have travel plans for the near future, but fantastic French bread and pastries would be an incredible thing to elevate a little staycation, and we have some ideas to complete your ideal Un-Getaway!
