In the Bay Area in Northern California, it’s easy to find great international cuisine, as the people here are a true melting pot of cultures from around the world, each bringing their own traditional dishes and gastronomic customs.
The same holds true if you drill your dining adventures down to Asian-inspired dishes. You name it, and you can find it here. Yet it’s rare to encounter a single establishment that excels in several different areas.
This is the amazing dining experience you’ll enjoy at Tashi Delek!
Located in El Cerrito just off Highway 123 and only a stone’s throw from Interstate 80, Tashi Delek proudly boasts delicious, homemade Bhutanese, Nepalese, Tibetan, and Indian fare.
The proprietors put a lot of love and care into everything they create, which draws folks from all over the Bay Area and further afield.
The starters cover a wide swath of delicious and distinctive options.
Among them are the Buff Sukuti, a traditional Nepalese dried Water Buffalo meat dish; the Chilli Chicken (yes, it is spelled with two "els"), delicate chicken thigh meat sautéed with a savory garlic ginger paste made with green chili, bell pepper, cilantro, and onion; and their signature starter, the Gobi Manchurian, cauliflower delicately dipped into a light batter then deep-fried until golden brown.
If you’ve never had them, be sure to order the Momos.
Stemming from the Nepalese diet, Momos are bite-size dumplings stuffed with a variety of fillings, then either steamed or fried, and sometimes both! Tashi Dalek offers them with only vegetables for vegetarian diets, or with chicken, beef, lamb, and Water Buffalo. Options also include with Jhol sauce made with tomatoes, onions, masala seasonings, and chillies.
Alaoo Baigan comes from the North Indian culture.
In it you will find eggplant and potatoes simmered until tender in a light curry sauce. It is typically served with rice and dal, a type of dried pea.
There are plenty of rice, noodle, and soup dishes as well.
The Veg-Chow Mein features savory onions, carrots, and cabbage, while the Beef - Thain Thuk drops the noodles into a nourishing broth then tops them with beef and a wide array of delectable vegetables. Tofu Saag and the Goat Curry are other popular dishes. They also serve 7 different varieties of naan (including a goat cheese variety!)
Can’t you just imagine all of this Asian-inspired goodness? Well, don’t torture yourself with just the thought. Get on over to Tashi Delek and give your tastebuds something they will not soon forget!
