No matter how old we get, when we walk into an old-fashioned candy shop, we are suddenly whisked back to our childhood. I love seeing barrels of taffy, vintage candies I used to save up coins to buy, and little trinkets that take me back in time. These nostalgic spots become that much more magical when you are in a charming small town away from home, don't you think? This adorable candy shop in Julian, CA, is one of those perfect little places, and I think you're going to want to visit next time you're in town.
With a name as sweet as the inventory, Julian Candy Basket is located on Main Street in the heart of this little mountain town.
Try not to be overwhelmed by the over 500 different candies that fill the shelves. This will definitely give you that old cliché *kid in a candy store* feeling.
The owners pride themselves on stocking lots of rare items that you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere, perhaps some you completely forgot about or maybe never even heard of.
When I was a kid, I remember having the absolute hardest time choosing between flavors of candy sticks like bubble gum, root beer, and cinnamon! As you can see, there is more nostalgia here than just candy. You'll find all sorts of gifts and memorabilia from mugs and pins to old-school aluminum lunch boxes, and lots more.
On a side note, if you instantly know the 80s movie these magnets are from, we are already friends... if you know you know.
Here is where Julian Candy Basket will take all of my hard-earned money. They have chocolate-covered, well, everything - truffles, nuts, malt balls, cookies, you name it. Even better (or worse, depending on how you look at it), they have whatever kind of chocolate you prefer, whether it's white, milk, or dark.
It's also pretty hard to resist bucket after bucket of saltwater taffy. I usually have to buy one of everything - two if I have to share!
You'll find a great selection of fun and nostalgic sodas on hand as well, including at least 20 brands of root beer and several quirky novelty drinks like pumpkin, bacon, and apple jalepeño. There are simply endless things to discover and try, aside from the favorites that will keep you coming back.
