It's hard not to appreciate a great architectural masterpiece that harkens back to a long-ago era. And if you’re a fan of famous writer J. K. Rowling, we invite you to visit a magnificent magical Northern California Hogwarts castle that delights and inspires - no broomsticks necessary! Come along with us as we check out Castello di Amorosa and get ready for a visual masterpiece. Plus, there's wine!
Castello di Amorosa (Castle of Love) is located at 4045 St Helena Hwy in the stunning Northern California town of Calistoga.
It was built to emulate an authentic 13th-century Tuscan castle by a fourth-generation winemaker who had always possessed an appreciation and love of medieval architecture.
Because the winemaker owner wanted the castle to be as authentic as possible, the painstaking design and building process took 15 years!
The castle is massive, encompassing an astounding 121,000 square feet. There are four above and four below-ground levels and 107 rooms. We bet Harry and the gang would have fun flying around all of that space!
The attention to detail is impressive, to say the least.
Most everything in this magical castle like Harry Potter’s Hogwarts, from the antique bricks to the furnishings inside were imported from Europe and really lend to the Old-World charm of the place.
Since the focus here is on producing superior-quality Italian-style wines, you’ll find that the wine rooms here are nothing short of spectacular!
The magical underground vaulted cellars encompass amazing red, white, sweet, rosé, sparkling, and other varieties. They also sell excellent, high-quality, non-alcoholic grape juice and olive oils.
To get an intimate feel for the ambiance in this authentic medieval castle, embark upon one of their wine tours.
Choose from their standing or seated options featuring five different wines which you can also upgrade with some of their handmade Belgian chocolates, the Diamond Estate Tour & Reserve Wine Tasting, Cheese & Charcuterie Wine Pairing Tour, or Luxury Tour & Tasting offerings. As part of your paid tour, you are free to roam the two main castle levels.
Even when shrouded in mist, Castello di Amorosa is spectacular.
Among the elements here are five towers, an armory, a moat and drawbridge (but of course!), high defensive ramparts, stables, and more.
A visit to Castello di Amorosa is by reservation only so plan accordingly. It’s an amazing property and well worth the visit. After several hours or even half a day at this magnificent magical Harry Potter Hogwarts castle, we’re sure that you’ll feel the magic!
