Sometimes the best kept secrets are in the middle of nowhere. And Murry’s is one of Arkansas’ secret restaurants near Hazen that you must visit. Established in 1958, this hidden gem is one of the oldest family-owned restaurants in the state, and the food is absolutely delicious.
When traveling off the beaten path, it’s easy to accidentally run into places like Murry's Restaurant, known for its mouthwatering catfish.
Located on US 70 between Carlisle and Hazen, this legendary eatery is tucked between farmlands in the Arkansas Delta. And currently, it's open on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The restaurant first operated in DeValls Bluff from these make-shift railway passenger cars put together by founder Olden Murry. But in 1987 it relocated to its current location.
This hidden gem is so iconic that it has no website or official Facebook page, but yet, it was the 2020 winner of the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame.
Additionally, Southern Living Magazine called the catfish the best in the country. And one bite and you’ll agree that it’s the most delicious catfish you’ve eaten to date.
This family-owned restaurant is the true definition of the food speaking for itself, as people travel for miles just to taste the finger-licking fare.
Some of the favorites include the chicken fried steak, the fried chicken, shrimp, and more. But it is the mouthwatering catfish that has patrons lining up at the door.
It’s cooked to perfection by current co-owner Stanley Young, who has over 40 years of experience frying up Arkansas’ favorite food.
Besides the catfish, you’ll love the homemade onion rings that are to die for. The batter is light and tasty, and the rings are fried perfectly crispy.
Also, you must save room for the old-fashioned bread pudding that is covered in yummy rum sauce.
Along with the mouthwatering food, the service at Murry’s is always pleasant. This family-owned restaurant makes sure that all the customers feel welcomed and right at home.
