Why A Soup Truck Is My Favorite New Food Truck This Winter In Alaska

When the winter chill sets in, there are few things in this world more comforting than a bowl of hot soup. Enter Soup. There It Is, Anchorage's new cozy little food truck serving up soul-warming soups with creative twists. After hearing rave reviews, I decided to try it for myself. Spoiler alert: I was not disappointed.
One night a couple of weeks ago, with the cold wind blowing and no energy to cook, I pulled up DoorDash and ordered from this cozy little food truck for the first time. The experience was so good, I’m already planning my next order.
I spent way too much time debating which soups to try, so I got a few of them. Every week, they rotate their menu, and after scrolling through their Facebook page to check the current offerings, I finally landed on three: Lemongrass Basil Chicken, Chicken Pot Pie, and Bahn Mi. I also threw in a few grilled cheese rolls because, honestly, how could I not? In less than 20 minutes, the soups arrived hot and ready to eat. I was impressed before I even took a bite.
The Lemongrass Basil Chicken soup was the standout for me. The broth was rich and creamy with just the right hint of coconut and lemongrass. It came loaded with tender chicken, fresh ginger, jalapeños, and basil, but the real game-changer was the red curry rice balls floating on top. They were spicy, chewy, and completely addictive. I actually ordered a second rice ball, and I was glad I did, because my husband was eating way too much of my soup.
The Chicken Pot Pie soup was good but not what I expected. I was imagining something thick and hearty, like a chowder. Instead, it had a lighter, cream-based broth filled with potatoes, carrots, corn, and peas. It was topped with two rosemary biscuits, which added a nice touch. While the flavors were great, I kept wishing for something a little more filling. If pot pie is your comfort food, though, this might be your dream soup.
My husband, meanwhile, loved the Bahn Mi soup. He’s a sucker for anything with bold flavors, and this one delivered. The peanut broth was savory and just slightly sweet, with tangy pickled veggies, jalapeños, and fresh cilantro on top. It came with lemongrass tofu and rice noodles, making it a good vegan option.
And then there were the grilled cheese rolls. These tiny toasted rolls filled with gooey cheese were everything I didn’t know I needed. They were buttery, crispy, and perfect for dipping into the soups. At $3.00 each, they felt a little pricey, but they were so good I wished I had ordered a few more.
Soup. There It Is has a truck always parked at 3206 Spenard Rd in Anchorage. They’re open Thursday through Sunday, with lunch hours from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and dinner from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For someone like me who wants a cozy meal without venturing out in the ice, DoorDash was a lifesaver. The delivery was faster than expected, and everything arrived hot and fresh.
But if you’re not the DoorDashing type, there’s always Grubhub.
