You might think there's nothing better than a good meal with a waterfront view, but this historic restaurant takes dining to another level. Dinner at Cap's Place in Florida is more than just a good meal, it's an unforgettable experience.
Cap's Place is located on Lighthouse Point, which is about halfway between West Palm Beach and Miami.
Part of the Cap's experience is taking the special ferry to get there, since the restaurant can only be reached by its motor launch.
Cap's secluded location is explained by its fascinating history. Broward County's oldest restaurant, it began life as a 1920s speakeasy and casino, with its own rum-running operation.
Its location on the Intracoastal is not only a good spot to hide, it offers beautiful waterfront views.
Though the restaurant itself is housed in a modest structure that looks sort of like an old fish camp, it's surrounded by South Florida's wild natural beauty.
Stepping inside Cap's Place is like walking back in time, straight into an Old Florida gem.
Over its many decades of operation, Cap's has become a real local legend, serving all kinds of celebrities, including Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, the Rockefellers, Al Capone, George Harrison, Errol Flynn, The Temptations, Mariah Carey, and Joe Namath.
It earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
Not only is Cap's a fascinating trip back in time, it serves some of the best fresh, local seafood in the area.
If you're not in the mood for seafood, they also serve succulent steaks, chicken and chops.
Cap's is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday, 5:30 p.m. through 9:45 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 10:45 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Reservations are highly recommended. Call (954) 941-0418 or visit capsplace.com for more information and to make a reservation. Cap's dock is located at 2765 N.E. 28th Court, Lighthouse Pt., FL. 33064.
