Fort Lauderdale is known for many things - natural beauty, a bustling downtown scene, and close proximity to some of the nicest beaches in the state. But within the past few years, this Florida city has also become a burgeoning art scene. Take the newest sculpture by Cape Town native Daniel Popper as the perfect example. This massive statue of a woman is causing quite a commotion for visitors, mainly because you can walk right through it under a canopy of green ferns. Come see for yourself why the Thrive statue, the woman statue in Fort Lauderdale, is such a hidden gem.
It’s hard to miss the relatively new giant-sized statue of a woman in Fort Lauderdale, Florida right by the Museum of Discovery and Science.
This massive sculpture known as Thrive by artist and sculptor Daniel Popper is located in Society Las Olas and boasts a whopping 26-feet.
This permanent public installation depicts a woman with her eyes closed, opening her chest to reveal a cove of beautiful vibrant ferns within.
Guests are invited to walk underneath the lush greenery, snapping a picture from inside the sculpture.
Popper, who is a Southern African native, offered up this larger-than-life statue as one of his latest installations across the globe. You might have seen something similar to this at a hotel in Tulum, Mexico.
Thrive was created out of GRFC and fiberglass, and then reinforced with concrete, which helps add to the more urban feel.
Clocking in at 28,000 pounds, or 14 tons, it’s no wonder that this massive sculpture isn’t going anywhere soon.
