The park itself has a unique history, as it first opened in the 1930s when businessman William J. Matheson donated 85 ares of beachfront land to the county to become a park.

The park’s unrivaled beauty is what makes it such a gem for residents. It has towering hardwood forests and stretches of mangroves.

But perhaps the most admired aspect of the entire park is the man-made saltwater swimming hole.

Spend a sunny, hot afternoon right on the edge of this swimming spot, taking a dip whenever the weather gets too warm.
