Welcome to your trip down Memory Lane, Floridians. Let’s head back in time together to a decade that was filled with big changes for The Sunshine State. The roaring 20s looked a little different in the south, especially since the 1920s consisted of the Florida land boom, the first real estate bubble which burst in 1925. This boom, however, left behind new cities, such as Hollywood, Miami Shores, Coral Gables, Hialeah, Opa-Locka, and Miami Springs. If you need a more tangible way of understanding the real estate boom, then consider the fact that Florida had a population of 968,470 people in 1920, and just five years later, that number increased to 1,263,540. The population of Miami in 1920 was around 5,000 people and by 1930, the number expanded to over 110,000.
But beyond real estate flourishing during this decade, other things were happening, too. The prohibition of alcohol was a major event in history, as well as the emergence of higher fashion, new music, and culture. Take a look at what life was like back in 1920s Florida.
