Explore The Oglebay Glass Museum In West Virginia, Then Stay The Night At Innisfree Farms

Exploring museums is one of the best ways to learn about different forms of art, history, science, and technology. And being able to top that museum visit off with a night or two (or three or four!) at unique lodging makes the experience even more rewarding. In West Virginia’s Wheeling, you can do just that. Head to the Oglebay Institute’s Glass Museum to explore exquisite and intricate glass pieces and then relax at one of Innisfree Farms' four amazing rentals.

The Glass Museum is run by the non-profit arts and cultural organization, the Oglebay Institute. Here, you’ll see more than 3,000 glass pieces made by Wheeling glass companies, ranging in dates from 1829-1939.

Just some of the glass on display includes peachblow glass, Northwood carnival glass, and Victorian glass.

The highlight of the museum is the Sweeney Punch Bowl, which was made in 1844 by Thomas Sweeney.

This five-foot-tall, 225-pound work of art is the largest piece of cut lead crystal ever created.

What sets this museum apart from many others is that depending on the day and time you visit, you may be able to catch a live glassblowing demonstration in the basement.

You’ll see firsthand just how these beautiful pieces of art are created. There are also classes available.

If you’ve got the time, you can get a combo ticket, which will include admission to the Oglebay Mansion Museum and its period rooms, décor, and furniture. It is the former home of industrialist Earl W. Oglebay.

Located on 70 acres of land, this family farm has the choice of four different rentals: Pond Cabin, Limentis Tinyhouse, the Farm House and this one, known as the Oculus Tinyhouse.

This newest tinyhouse on the property is located in a nice wooded corner of the former horse farm. In addition to the chance to spot wildlife, there’s also two ponds and trails to explore.

The house will sleep two people comfortably in a Murphy bed and features a beautiful, large window that faces out into the woods and pond.

You’ll have all the basic necessities here, including a cooktop, convection oven, sink, and fridge. There’s also a fire ring, a grill, and a table and chairs outside.

While there are two other rental houses with different sizes located on Innisfree Farms, let’s go from one extreme to the other.

This 4,000-square-foot luxury home is built for large groups as it will sleep up to 16 people.

Inside, you’ll find three bathrooms, five bedrooms, a library, living room, laundry room, and a chef’s kitchen.

There is also a great room, with enough seating for everyone to gather. And of course, a lovely fireplace to get cozy around. And outside, you’ll find a garden patio, deck, and fire pit.
