The Stunning College In Virginia That Looks Just Like Hogwarts
Virginia is filled with impressive architecture. Centuries-old buildings that date back to the Colonial era and modern buildings alike have a way of inspiring awe and wonder. One area where incredible architecture is truly on display is on university campuses. Head to Virginia Tech, for example, and you'll notice a collection of stately and strong stone buildings. These limestone blocks created a neo-Gothic-style campus reminiscent of Oxford, Cambridge, and perhaps even the fictional Hogwarts. Here's more on the beautiful Virginia Tech campus, and its striking similarity to the wizarding world of Harry Potter.
Virginia Tech was established in October 1872. But you could easily be forgiven for thinking the campus was much, much older, due to its impressive stonework.
The earliest buildings on campus were actually made from brick, and it wasn't until later that they were renovated to stately stone between 1891 and 1907.
Exploring the Virginia Tech campus, you'll find a collection of towering buildings, all created from what is affectionately called "Hokie Stone."
The limestone that is so characteristic of this institution has actually been mined from the school's own quarry, just outside of Blacksburg.
This beloved Hokie Stone is actually dolomite, a mineral that's common to the Appalachian region of Virginia, Alabama, and Tennessee.
As you walk the beautiful campus grounds, you can easily imagine that you've been transported to the world of Harry Potter.
This is especially true in the winter when a blanket of snow covers the beautiful buildings. For a minute, you could just imagine the famous Hogwarts Express steaming by!
