In October 2018 there will be a new addition to the University Mall in South Burlington.

Target will be opening their doors in this busy area which is also close to several colleges.

From housewares to clothing to groceries, this will be a one stop shop for fans of the chain.

The store is expected to employ 75 people.

While some people are thrilled...

Others have more mixed emotions.

Did you know that Vermont is the last state to have a Target?

There have been talks about a Target moving to Vermont since 2010 and it has been met with much resistance.

Due to Act 250 which affects the environmental and community impacts of larger projects, the plan came apart in 2012. The proposal for the proposed 136,000 square-foot store was a no-go.

Now we can expect to see a small-format store at a more modest 60,000 square foot location.

This "small-format" store will be located in the space where the Bon Ton currently resides.
