The Vermont City That’s Unlike Any Other In The World
The big, little city of Burlington, VT has everything you could ever want... and then some. While we could talk about the fresh farm to table dining, the classic diners, shopping, architecture and more, let's take a look at some of the things you'll find here that makes this Vermont city unlike any other in the world.
What other city has flying monkies on top of buildings?
Other than OZ, that is...
These monkeys have become an iconic part of the city and are loved by all.
The first monkey was commissioned by a furniture store called Emerald City and was designed to look like the famous flying monkeys from the Wizard Of Oz.
See the world's tallest file cabinet.
Built in 2002 by local artist Bren Alvarez, the filing cabinet is made up of 38 drawers.
You can find the file cabinet in a field on Flynn Avenue, located between Pine Street and Foster Street.
You'll find fun and unusual festivals.
Pictured is a one man band at the annual Festival of Fools on Church Street.
And Mardi Gras!
You don't need to be in the south to celebrate this fun parade!
Remnants of a Burled Forest.
While this used to be a whole forest of interestingly burled trees, sadly only 3 are left. You can find them above North Beach with two at the entrance of the woodsy area and a third within, showing new signs of burley beginnings.
The Burlington Farmers Market.
This year round farmers market is surprisingly large and offers local goods, produce and fun times.
Nods to Champ.
Throughout Burlington you'll find indications of Champ, the reported monster who lives in Lake Champlain. Although no reports have ever been confirmed, we can't help but try to spot him ourselves.
Haunted neighborhoods.
Many cities have a haunted building here and there. We dare you to check out this haunted neighborhood.
Gorgeous waterfront.
How many cities have waterfronts like Burlington?
Don't forget the picturesque lighthouses.
You can spot a few from the waterfront and they are beautiful.
You can spend the day at the beach.
North Beach is right in Burlington and is the perfect way to stay cool on a hot summer day.
You can even camp out!
That's right, the North Beach Campground is a perfect place to pitch a tent and spend the night... all while never leaving the city.
City Hall Park.
A great place in the middle of the city to read a book, soak in the sights and enjoy the fresh air.
At 270 Pine Street you'll even find...
A rhino crashing out of a building with pumpkins and a crow??? Burlington certainly has a great sense of humor!
