This Utah Ice Castle Is Like Something Out Of A Fairy Tale

We've shown you so many Utah winter wonderlands already this season. From this gorgeous, snowy town to this charming little Christmas village to these Christmas light displays, we've given you plenty to see and do this month. But what will you do when Santa has come and gone and all the lights and tinsel are packed away 'til next year? Well, here's a little secret...the most enchanting winter wonderland is yet to come! Take a look, and make your plans now.

Midway Ice Castles is a Utah company that's grown to include locations in five states. The technology for building these icy abodes is a patented technique.

Sunrise over the castles is a thing of beauty.

While the castles are stunning during the day, after dark, the castles light up in blues, greens and purples for a magical nighttime experience.

When you enter the Ice Castles, the magic begins!

The tunnels surround you, and glow with the colored lights.

You'll have fun exploring all the ice caves, tunnels and passageways.

It's chilly inside! Make sure to bundle up with gloves and warm clothing so you can enjoy the entire experience. Also, wear snow boots with good tread so that you'll keep your footing on the ice and snow.

These castles are enormous. Each one weighs 25,000,000 pounds and has walls that are 10 feet thick.

Thousands of icicles hang from every surface. The owners add 10,000 icicles to the castles every day. Don't worry - they won't fall on you. Because they're attached to ice (and not a structure like a roof), they're firmly planted. During warm days, they might drip a bit of cold water on your neck, though!

You can pose for a photo with characters from Frozen while you're there.

As you can see, the Midway Ice Castles is a very romantic date.

Midway Ice Castles is slated to open right after Christmas. Make sure to get your tickets in advance - they sell quickly!

They're busily building the ice castles right now! Once the weather is cold enough, they'll open to the public. Check out this timelapse video posted by Roadtrippers.com:

Tickets go on sale as soon as Midway Ice Castles has a firm opening date. Keep an eye on the happenings on Facebook, and visit the website for more information. Did you see them last year? Tell us about it!
