This Iconic Holiday Event in Utah is the One Thing You Must Do This Season

Well, folks, it happened. We’re winding down on 2024, and the holiday season is upon us! Where does the time go? It feels like we were just enjoying summer summit hikes, and now we’re about to jump into the new year. Truth be told, winter is my favorite time of year. I embrace the dark nights and stay cozy underneath piles of fleece, reflecting on life. When I’m not snuggled up under the blankets, I check out all of Utah’s incredible holiday displays. There’s one iconic holiday event in Utah that everyone should see — Luminaria. Here’s what you need to know:

Luminaria is the largest Christmas light show in Utah, and it’s one of the most magical displays you’ve ever seen. This is the ninth year for this iconic holiday event, and it’s already become quite popular since it opened on November 14, 2024. Don’t worry, it continues until January 4, 2025, so you’ve still plenty of time to check it out. 

Ashton Gardens is a beautiful space year-round, and it’s certainly one of my favorite things to do in Utah in the spring, but these 50 acres take on a whole life when they’re covered in twinkling lights. 

From the iconic luminary hill with 6,500 programmed luminaries to the 120-foot tree, Luminaria dazzles the eye from the moment you step inside. 

Luminaria has evolved over the years, getting bigger and bolder with every holiday season. That remains true this year, as they’ve implemented a new Fire & Ice show. This unique eight-minute production takes holiday displays to the next level with 20-foot flames and synchronized lights to music. The show happens every 20 minutes at the Waterfall Amphitheater, so make sure you carve out some time to see it while visiting Luminaria.

Tickets to Luminaria are available on Thanksgiving Point’s website, with time slots from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. There are plenty of packages available to make the evening extra magical, including VIP packages, private firepit experiences, and even the option to reserve your own personal heated igloo.

Luminaria is open from November 14, 2024, until January 4, 2025. There will be a special New Year’s Eve celebration at Luminaria, too!
