It doesn’t matter if you are a book lover or you are just looking for something new to do in Utah, the Salt Lake City Public Library's main branch will not disappoint you. While this building is truly like something from a book lover’s dream, the unique architecture, ample natural light, amazing views of the city, and even the incredible selection of books make this building quite the attraction. This is one destination where you can read, learn, explore, and admire, and it is certainly one of a kind when compared to other libraries around the state.
The first thing you will notice about the Salt Lake City Public Library on 210 East 400 South is its incredible architecture. This structure isn’t like others in the area. It features a curved design that captures your attention the minute you arrive.
The library was built in 2003 and is one of the largest libraries in Utah. This building is 240,000 square feet and is five stories tall.
Inside, you’ll be blown away by the beauty, simplicity, and design of the library. There are more than 176,000 square feet of glass around this library, which lets in lots of natural light.
You’ll even find many reading areas throughout the library, many on higher levels and next to windows, offering incredible views of the Salt Lake Valley and the Wasatch Mountains.
However, the building isn’t the only star of the show here. The Salt Lake City Public Library is home to more than 500,000 books and other materials. You’ll find books in all genres and niches, and on almost every floor. There is something for everyone to read here.
The library is designed so the noisier and busier areas are located on the lower floors and the less populated and more study-oriented spaces are located on the upper floors. For example, you will find the Children’s Library located on the lower level while special collections, including old and rare materials, are located on level four.
There are other features and services in this large library including more than 150 computers for public use, a small amphitheater, and conference rooms. The library also hosts numerous events throughout the year such as story times and author signings.
It's hard to believe this incredible building is a library! There really is so much to see and do in this stunning building.
