Here’s Everything I’d Recommend After My First Visit to Epic Universe

Epic Universe, one of the most innovative and immersive theme parks ever created and the first major theme park to open in Orlando in 25 years, is an experience unlike any other I've had...in the world. I recently had the chance to indulge in every facet of the park, and not to be dramatic, but this is something that I will keep with me for a lifetime. As someone who’s been to several theme parks over the years, I thought I knew what to expect. But Universal’s newest addition blew past those expectations in the best way. From immersive lands to jaw-dropping attractions and hidden gems I stumbled upon between rides, here’s everything I’d recommend doing if it’s your first time stepping into Epic Universe.

Start Early and Don’t Skip the Entrance Area

Trust me on this: arrive early. Not just to beat the crowds (though that’s a big plus), but to soak in the energy right from the entrance. Celestial Park, the central hub, is beautiful. It's also the centerpiece for the story of Epic Universe, as you walk under the Chronos into a new world. There are kinetic sculptures, peaceful water features, and a few surprisingly good places to grab breakfast. It’s a calm-before-the-storm moment that sets the stage for the rest of the day.

Spread Each World Out To Take It All In

Are you able to spread your trip out between 2-3 days? Great. I highly recommend doing so. Each of the new worlds in Epic Universe is as interactive as it gets, so it's important to really immerse yourself rather than feeling rushed. The way I looked at it was that each of these worlds was its own mini theme park inside a bigger theme park. There are themed food offerings, cleverly creative beverages, rides, and gift shops. Fitting four of these mini theme parks into one day means you're making sacrifices along the way. So, take your time and enjoy the experience. Here are my favorite worlds in order, starting with my favorite, and some tips for exploring fully in each:

How To Train Your Dragon Isle of Berk

I didn’t expect to enjoy this world as much as I did—mostly because I’d only seen the first movie and wouldn’t call myself a superfan. But the moment I stepped into the land, I was completely captivated. Designed to resemble the Viking village of Berk, this area is brimming with detail, family-friendly charm, and dragon-filled adventures that bring the world of Hiccup and Toothless vividly to life. From the sweeping views of rocky cliffs and Viking-inspired architecture to the immersive sounds of dragon wings overhead, every element pulls you deeper into the story. The vibrant colors, whimsical design, and expansive layout—accentuated by water features that drive home the feeling of being on an island—make it feel like stepping into an animated film. I highly recommend Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, a high-speed rollercoaster that hits 45 m.p.h. and includes a fun, narrative twist. And don’t miss The Untrainable Dragon live show—it’s a 10/10 experience for all ages, packed with surprises I wouldn’t dare spoil.

Craving a fun bite to eat? The Mac and Cheese cones are a must-try—creamy, comforting macaroni and cheese served in a warm garlic bread cone and topped with Goldfish crackers for a playful crunch. It's easily one of the best things I’ve tasted in the park. Dark Universe

I had a strong sense I’d fall in love with Dark Universe—and I was right. Stepping through the portal into the fictional village of Darkmoor, I was immediately greeted by a swirling mist rising from the ground, setting the tone for what was to come. Inspired by iconic Universal Monsters like Frankenstein, Dracula, the Wolf Man, and the Bride of Frankenstein, this area embraces gothic horror and mad science with a richly atmospheric flair. But this isn’t your standard haunted house attraction; it’s a fully realized world that weaves haunting beauty with immersive, cinematic storytelling.

I sat front row on the Curse of the Werewolf ride, which had a fun twist mid-ride. This rollercoaster focuses more on spinning and speeding than huge drops, but that doesn't make it any less exciting. I actually rode this one twice, because once just wasn't enough.

Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment is a thrilling motion simulation that makes you feel like you're dropped into a movie storyline. The animatronics were fantastic, and even the queue for this ride was as immersive as it gets.

I highly recommend visiting The Burning Blade for some fun cocktail concoctions. And right outside, snag yourself a Frankenstein-shaped pretzel as a quick treat.

Super Mario Nintendo World

Before stepping into Super Nintendo World, be sure to grab a Power-Up Band—it’s essential for unlocking the full experience. These interactive wristbands allow you to engage with the land in ways I’ve never seen at any other theme park. I picked up a Toadstool Power-Up Band and immediately found myself punching coin blocks and bricks, playing mini-games to collect keys, and even competing with other guests for high scores. It adds an entirely new layer of fun and immersion to the adventure.

Let’s start with the design—because the moment you step through that iconic green Warp Pipe, you’re no longer in a theme park; you’re in the vibrant, pixel-perfect world of Super Mario Bros. Instantly, you’re surrounded by a dazzling, kinetic landscape that feels like it leapt straight out of the game and into real life. Every corner bursts with bold colors, playful movement, and whimsical detail, from spinning coins to Piranha Plants, Thwomps, and Goombas. It’s not just a visual treat—it’s a full-on sensory experience. The land is packed with interactive adventures, clever ride technology, and nostalgic nods that had me grinning ear to ear. Whether you grew up with a controller in your hand or you’re just discovering the magic of Mario, the immersive world-building here makes you feel like a kid again. It’s pure, playful joy—engineered to make you jump, explore, and believe in the power of mushrooms.

My favorite ride by far was Mine Cart Madness in Donkey Kong Country™—a rollercoaster experience unlike anything I’ve ever been on. Inspired by the iconic mine cart levels from the classic Donkey Kong games, this attraction takes guests on a high-speed journey through a lush, jungle-themed environment that perfectly captures the chaotic charm of the original gameplay. What sets this ride apart is its groundbreaking track-hopping technology. Using a unique sideways movement system, it creates the heart-pounding illusion that your mine cart is leaping from broken track to broken track. I had no idea what to expect going in, which made it all the more thrilling. One moment, you’re speeding along a rickety rail; the next, you’re seemingly flying through the air with no track beneath you. It’s both terrifying and awe-inspiring, a perfect blend of cutting-edge design and nostalgic storytelling. This ride doesn’t just pay homage to the game—it makes you feel like you’re living it.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic

And finally, a world that so many have been anticipating, another installment in the Harry Potter franchise. This immersive land seamlessly blends the grandeur of the 1990s British Ministry of Magic with the enchanting streets of 1920s Paris, as depicted in the Fantastic Beasts films. I wholeheartedly felt transported onto the set of the film here, with so much detail given to the shops, streets, alleyways, and fun interactive elements. Before you enter, make sure to snag yourself a wand. This is crucial if you want to enjoy many aspects of the world that allow for engagement.

Throughout the world, there are little bronze plaques in the cobblestone that showcase spells you are to perform to get a reaction. This was such a fun highlight, as I tested my spell-casting skills and really felt like I was a wizard in training.

But the real highlight for me was the mainstay ride. A highlight of this land is the attraction Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. First, I was transported via the Floo Network to the British Ministry of Magic, where I witnessed the trial of Dolores Umbridge following Voldemort's defeat. The ride itself features omnidirectional lifts that navigate through a dynamic environment filled with magical creatures and spellbinding effects, offering an exhilarating adventure alongside Harry, Ron, Hermione, and a house-elf named Higgledy. The simulations felt so real, it was like starring in your very own Harry Potter film.

Don’t Skip the Smaller Experiences

Some of my favorite moments weren’t rides at all. The interactive wand experiences in the Wizarding World let you cast “spells” in shop windows and fountains. In Celestial Park, I stumbled onto a pop-up live music performance that drew a spontaneous dance party. And there are tucked-away gardens and benches where you can catch your breath and people-watch.

Also, if you’re into collectibles, browse the shops. They go way beyond souvenir t-shirts—think exclusive merch, themed snacks, and even customizable character gear.

Final Tips From My First Visit

• Comfortable shoes are non-negotiable. You’ll walk a lot more than you think.
• Hydrate and reapply sunscreen. Florida sun shows no mercy.
• Use the Universal app. It’s super helpful for tracking wait times, mobile ordering food, and finding restrooms.

All in all, Epic Universe lives up to its name. It’s a massive, imaginative space that somehow feels intimate and personal, especially when you take the time to slow down and savor it. I already know I’ll be back—and next time, I’ll bring even more friends to experience it for the first time all over again.
