Unexpected Treasures Can Be Found at Top Drawer Thrift, a Thrifter’s Dream in the Lone Star State

Top Drawer Thrift is one of the best thrift stores in Texas. It's quirky, well-organized, and focuses on community and sustainability.

Thrifting has always been one of my favorite hobbies. Not only is it great for the planet (along with sustainable travel), but it’s also so satisfying to come home with bags full of stylish clothes and unique knick-knacks knowing my wallet didn’t take a major hit. I’ve even snagged a couple of designer dresses from thrift stores! If you’re anything like me and feel like you’ve won the lottery when you score an awesome thrifted find, you’ll love Top Drawer Thrift in Austin. A longstanding institution and one of the best thrift stores in Texas, Top Drawer offers a massive selection of resale clothing, shoes, furniture, home decor, and so much more. Items are added to the floor regularly, so the inventory is always fresh. Get ready to shop until you drop and give your closet a makeover for cheap.

There's quite a bit of merchandise to sort through, but unlike at many thrift stores, it isn't haphazardly displayed. Everything is neatly organized and labeled, so you can find what you need with ease. Most of the items are in great condition, too, which means nobody even has to know they were thrifted (although personally, I tell anyone who will listen!).

You'll see clothes spanning a myriad of eras and trends, from retro to hippie to modern and everything in between. It's a blast to sift through the racks and find pieces you'll be excited to wear. Matching tops and bottoms are a rarity, but in my opinion, it's more fun to build your own outfits anyway (bonus points if they're a bit quirky and eccentric!). Many thrift stores only sell clothing, but Top Drawer Thrift also has furniture, household decor, accessories, and a variety of other items.

As a nonprofit, Top Drawer Thrift gives back to the community by using proceeds to benefit causes like housing and employment for Austinites in need, so you can feel good knowing your purchases are helping where it counts.

Visit the Top Drawer Thrift website for more information, including current business hours. Have you ever shopped at Top Drawer Thrift? If so, do you think it's one of the best thrift stores in Texas? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thrifting might save you money on clothes and household items, but what about travel? If your wanderlust is as bad as mine, I definitely recommend signing up for Dollar Flight Club. You'll save on everything from domestic to international to first and business-class flights, and it really pays off over the years. For more money-saving travel tips, I wrote an article about an affordable Texas road trip you can take for under $100.
