The engine was built in 1927 at the Lima Locomotive Works in Ohio. Today, it's the only remaining example of super-power steam trains in Texas.
All steam engines in America thereafter were modeled after this one and ran at a top speed of 45 mph until 1937, when they could run at 60 mph and pull both freight and passenger cars.
This antique train in Texas resided in Fort Worth until 1976, when it was pulled across the state during the Bicentennial Freedom Train.
After that, it was used for several years for excursions by the Southern Railroad before finally being donated to the Texas State Railroad in 1986, where it still stands today.
