Driving around to look at Christmas lights is a quintessential holiday pastime, and luckily, Texas has quite a few neighborhoods that go all out. In no particular order, listed below are nine of the best Christmas light displays in Texas. So, grab some hot cocoa, crank up the festive tunes, and enjoy the ride to these amazing Christmas light neighborhoods.

1.

Burkman Holiday Home - Frisco

This over-the-top holiday home display gives Clark Griswold a run for his money. With 70,000 lights, a train village, photo-ops, and a mailbox for letters to Santa, it’s a true winter wonderland. You can drive by or walk through this spectacular holiday display.

2.

River Oaks - Houston

Each year, thousands of people flock to this affluent Houston neighborhood to marvel at the grandiose light displays. The glittering bulbs hang from tree branches, frame doorways, snake along rooftops, and blanket perfectly manicured shrubs for a spellbinding holiday extravaganza. Each house is seemingly more opulent than the last. Disclaimer: You'll likely be sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic for a while, so plan on bringing some snacks and hot cocoa for the road. The lights in River Oaks typically stay on through the New Year.

3.

Deerfield - Plano

Deerfield is a Plano neighborhood known for its spectacular Christmas light displays. No two houses are alike, with each family showcasing their own unique perspective on what it means to "deck the halls." Some of the displays are full-blown shows set to music, while others rely on whimsical lawn decor to wow visitors. The lights are on nightly, and you can also tour the neighborhood via horse and carriage with NorthStar Carriages. If you're driving, be sure to enter the neighborhood via Legacy Drive.

4.

Christmas Ranch - Cleveland

With an incredible drive-thru display boasting more than 300,000 lights, it's hard to believe Christmas Ranch is located on the grounds of a private residence. Snowmen, reindeer, and other classic holiday symbols mingle with offbeat decorations like dinosaurs in Santa hats for an elaborate hodgepodge you'll only find in the Lone Star State.

5.

Fairmount National Historic District - Fort Worth

This elegant Fort Worth neighborhood will be lit up all throughout December. The displays are incredibly tasteful and promise to make you long for the days of yore.

6.

City of Windcrest

Just outside of San Antonio, Texas, the City of Windcrest holds a friendly Christmas light contest. Prizes are awarded in various categories such as "best block," "most creative display," etc. We honestly don't know how winners are chosen, as every house is absolutely amazing!

7.

Grapevine Santa House - Grapevine

The Grapevine Santa House is yet another reason to visit the "Christmas Capital of Texas." Louie Murillo adorns his home with hundreds of Santas. And who knows? You might even run into the "Big Man in Red" himself.

8.

Franck Christmas Light Show - Houston

Ever since 2008, the Franck Family has dazzled Space City with their annual Christmas light show. Synchronized to music, this epic spectacle lasts about 45 minutes, which is plenty of time to bring the holiday spirit to life. Don't forget to drive by and enjoy the show this holiday season.

9.

Dodd Family Holidays - The Woodlands

For almost two decades, the Dodd Family has poured lots of sweat, money, and passion into their Christmas light display. People come from all over to watch the two-hour animated light show, which features around 45 songs. Be sure to come and see what all the hype is once the Christmas season arrives.
