In search of family-friendly fun in Texas that both you and the kids will enjoy? Look no further than Texas Through Time. This free museum features dinosaur fossils from all over the world, with a special emphasis on those that can be traced back to the Lone Star State. It's fun and educational - there's even a fossil dig pit for the little ones!
If you have a house full of dinosaur-loving kiddos, you have to bring them to Texas Through Time in downtown Hillsboro.
Located in the historic Grime's Garage, this family-friendly dinosaur museum features fossils from all over the world, with an emphasis on those originating right here in Texas.
Upon stepping inside, you'll see everything from life-size dinosaur skeletons to the fossilized remains of smaller reptiles, plus amphibians, mammals, sharks, and more.
Guided tours are available, presenting the specimens in chronological order from oldest to youngest.
There aren't a ton of exhibits, but that just means you get to spend more time exploring each one.
Equal parts fun and educational, the museum is a blast for all ages - parents can't help but have a great time, either.
Kids especially enjoy the interactive elements of the museum, including a fossil dig box.
After the hard work of excavating their very own fossils, each child gets to take one home!
Various classes on a variety of Paleontology-related subjects are offered for both children and adults throughout the year.
Featuring hands-on activities and guest speakers, these classes provide an even deeper dive into the prehistoric world than a simple tour of the museum.
On your way out, don't forget to peruse the gift shop!
You'll see all sorts of souvenirs to remember your visit by - everything from kitschy T-shirts to toys to coloring books.
Address: 110 North Waco Street, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
Hours are 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.
There is no charge to visit the museum. Check out the website or Facebook page to learn more.
