Did you know that Texas was once a very royal place? There are castles all over the state, and lucky for us, there are captivating castles that you wouldn't ever believe are right near Austin. Take a day and go live out your fairy tale with a visit to one of these enchanting landmarks. Visitors beware...Not every castle was built for kings and queens. Some were built for jails and courthouses, while others built for entertainment and hotels. Here are 10 castles in Austin and the surrounding area:
1. Home to Terry and King Young, they have graciously allowed visitors to tour.

2. Trube Castle was built in 1890 and was meant to resemble a Danish Castle.
1627 Sealy Street Galveston, TX
3. Medieval Times is located in Dallas for guests to come and enjoy medieval activities like jousting, sorcery, and much more.
2021 North Stemmons Freeway Dallas, TX
4. Don't be fooled. This is not your fairytale castle. This is Brown County Jail built in 1903.
212 North Broadway Brownwood, TX
5. Old Red Castle is right in the heart of downtown Dallas. built in 1892.
6. The Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints castle was raided in 2008 when alleged abuse of children came to light.
Eldorado, TX
7. Now THIS, is a dreamy castle. Originally built for Walter Gresham, his wife, and nine children.
Galveston, TX
8. Lucky us! We have our very own castle in the city - General Land Office Castle also known as the State Visitor Center.

9. This is a beautiful castle. It is the Shelby County Courthouse built in 1885 by an Irish architect.
10. Creepiest castle of all - Austin County Jail in Bellville, TX. Take a tour to view all of the "creepy" things that prisoners had to endure back then.
