Here Are the Best Places To Go Sled Riding In Tennessee This Winter

Discover the best places to go sledding in Tennessee during the winter season.

Tennessee probably isn’t the first, second, or tenth place you think of when it comes to snow and winter recreation. We get it. But while our winters are generally pretty mild, we can usually count on a couple of good snows each year and at least one that causes us to dig for our sleds and snow boots. And when that day comes, you’ll want to be ready with the best places to go sledding in Tennessee! So without further ado, here are some excellent places to embrace the next snow day in the Volunteer State…

So here's the thing. Tennessee doesn't really have a ton of sledding opportunities... because we don't get much snow. That doesn't mean we're going to forget the solid spots we do have! Curious? Take a lovely little gander, folks.

1. Lakeshore Park - Knoxville

We heard this one through the grapevine - from local Knoxvillians, of course! They swear by the soft slopes at Lyon's View Park when it gets a bit chilly and frosty out there. Be careful driving, but you can find Lakeshore Park at 6410 S Northshore Dr, Knoxville, TN, 37919.

2. Smoky Mountain National Park - Gatlinburg

The Smokies aren't just great for hiking and lookin' at - they also make for some solid sledding hills! Jump in your car and take a trip through the winding hills. You'll find groups of families parked (safely) by the side of the road, ready to enjoy an afternoon. Have you visited Smoky Mountain National Park in the winter? You really should!

3. Ober Gatlinburg

The snow tubing at Ober Gatlinburg is grade A in our book. It's all the fun of sledding WITHOUT the long walk up the hill - which we all know isn't any fun. But you know what is fun? Visiting Ober Gatlinburg during the winter, that's what!

4. Your Own Backyard

Don't have a way to get around? Grab a cardboard box and make your own sled, and find a spot in your neighborhood. It's such a fun way to bond with your neighbors and enjoy a bit of time together. We love the chance to make new friends. And if someone has a camera you can capture this rare moment in history.

This list of best places to go sledding in Tennessee may be small, but we are pretty sure you can find plenty of sledding hills in Tennessee when the snow flies. We aren’t too upset, anyway. A little bit of snow means a ton of fun precisely when we want it. Because winter in Tennessee can be just as fun as anywhere in the US. Take that, northerners!
