The Longest Yard Sale In The World Runs Right Through Tennessee Every Year

The 127 Yard Sale, the world's longest yard sale, spans six states and offers a unique road trip experience with local character and good deals.

If you're a fan of yard sales and estate sales throughout the year, then the world's longest yard sale (hosted right here in the United States!) may be an event that's right up your alley. The state-line busting experience is hosted on an annual basis, and it runs right through the good ol' Volunteer State; 127 Yard Sale 2023 will take place August 3-6. Tennessee may be incredible on its own, but when the locals join arms with our neighboring states, you can't lose. So plan a couple of days to get outside and travel the whole route of the 127 Yard Sale in Tennessee.

The 127 Yard Sale is also known as the Highway 127 Corridor Sale and is known for being the largest and longest yard sale in the United States, perhaps even the world. The event normally takes place in August and extends for four days.

The idea for the extensive sale route actually hails from Fentress County, Tennessee, where Mike Walker came up with the idea and made it a reality all the way back in 1987.

At first, the sale only followed US 127 from Covington, Kentucky to Chattanooga, Tennessee. After a few years, Lookout Mountain Parkway was added, which then extended the sale through Georgia and Alabama. By 2006 the route stretched through Ohio and Michigan.

The total end-to-end distance of the Highway 127 Corridor Sale is 690 miles.

It's a great place to meet yard sale shoppers and veteran vendors, and the sale is adding new folks year after year. Since the route spans six states total, you can choose to visit the portion of the route that is closest to you or you can print out a turn-by-turn map, provided by the sale organizers, to explore it in its entirety.

We'd recommend traveling as much of the yard sale trail as you can, especially since there are all sorts of other activities along the way. From fishing to exploring state parks or simply enjoying small towns and cities, there's something special about spending those four days in August on the road.
