Enjoy An Old-Fashioned 1860s Holiday Celebration At The Frontier Christmas In South Dakota

Frontier Christmas at Fort Sisseton Historic State Park offers traditional 1860s activities and crafts for a wholesome holiday experience.

The holiday season is in full swing here in the Mount Rushmore State, meaning there is no shortage of things to see and do for the next several weeks! While New Year's Eve is all about partying like it's 1999, Christmas is often a more wholesome time, which is where events like Frontier Christmas - which allow you to celebrate 1880s style - come into play:

Taking place on December 14th, 2019 is the beloved annual Frontier Christmas in Lake City!

Located at the Fort Sisseton Historic State Park, the Frontier Christmas offers something for everyone thanks to their traditional 1860s activities.

Do you enjoy doing crafts? There is no shortage of crafting at Frontier Christmas, which has nearly 12 unique make-and-take crafts stations!

Have you ever ridden in a one-horse (or two) open sleigh? Bundle up because you can do that at Frontier Christmas, too.

Have you been good for goodness sake? Lucky for you, Father Christmas will also be making an appearance at Frontier Christmas, so bring your list for him to check twice.

In addition to all of the above, Frontier Christmas will also offer a delicious lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., plus the pictured caroling, roasted chestnuts, and demonstrations of 19th-century blacksmithing and weaving.

Frontier Christmas begins at 10 a.m. and is included with your state park entrance license.
