The Stomach-Dropping Suspended Bridge Walk You Can Only Find In South Carolina

The Lake Haigler Loop trail at Anne Springs Close Greenway offers a family-friendly hike with scenic views, wildflowers, and a thrilling suspension bridge.

Looking for a fun way to keep the kids entertained on a longer-than-usual hike? A visit to the Lake Haigler entrance of the Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill is a sure bet. The Lake Haigler Loop trail is filled with beautiful distractions perfect for an anytime hike.

The Greenway is loaded with trails, so for this one, you'll want to begin at the Visitor Center.

From there, the trail meanders through a portion of the 2,100 acres of the Greenway to wind up at a loop that circle Lake Haigler.

The views of this 28-acre lake are worth a stop to gawk and take photos. So carve out some extra time.

And the wildflowers in bloom throughout the spring, summer, and fall add pops of color along the entire route.

As you make your way to the suspension bridge, expect a few other water crossings and neat bridges from which to view the water beneath.

There's also a small pier and dock on the lake that's a must-visit.

The trail pops into a forested section with more bridges and plenty of shade. Don't forget to bring along some water on this journey.

With stops to see and do things along the way, it takes a little over an hour to reach the suspension bridge.

The kids will love exploring every little nuance of this gently swaying bridge secured in place by ropes and featuring a slat floor making it easy to see the water running beneath.

The 125-foot bridge is a highlight of the Greenway, and an experience every kid (and kid at heart) should have at least once!

If the extended length of this suspension bridge doesn't make your stomach drop, and the short distance to the ground doesn't make you dizzy, then perhaps the gentle sway of the bridge will make your hair stand on end.
