13 Epic Outdoorsy Things In South Carolina Anyone Can Do

Before that short South Carolina spring slips into the lazy days of summer, let's get outside and explore this great state. Here are 13 great ways to turn up the explorer instinct in anyone. Have fun!

1. Head over to the beach to look for great shells.

Even if you're local you know you can't resist a score this big...

2. Go say hello to the oldest living Oak tree on the East Coast.

The Angel Oak and its sprawling limbs cover more than 17,000 square feet. She's more than 1500 years old. If you're viewing this image on your phone...that little red speck is a woman in a red dress. More info here.

3. Hike a passage of the Palmetto Trail

The Palmetto Trail, when complete, will be one of 16 cross-state trails in the US. At the moment, 350 miles of the projected 500 are finished in "passages" that range from 1.3 to 47 miles. Of course, you don't have to hike your passage from end-to-end. Just go as far as you want and hike back the way you came. Here's a link to all the passages currently open.

4. Go chase lighthouses.

South Carolina has 7 great historic lighthouses to see. We featured them all in an article here.

5. Take a walk in the tree tops.

Over in Coward, SC the Lynches River County Park has a canopy walk you'll never forget. We featured it here recently.

6. Visit Fenway Park without leaving South Carolina.

Fluor Field in Greenville is a replica of Fenway Park. Do you see the Green Monster in this photo? It's in front of that towering building in the middle of the photo.

7. Walk a mile along the Waccamaw on Conway's Riverwalk.

Explore the beautiful riverwalk in Conway, SC. P.S. You don't need wedding attire. :-)

8. Pay your respects outside Emanuel AME Church in Charleston.

It's never too late to place a memorial outside Emanual AME in remembrance of the lives lost here last June. After, explore the Holy City on foot.

South Carolina has so many great lakes to enjoy. View a comprehensive list here.

10. Do some serious porch or deck surfing.

Any season is a good one to grab a cold beverage and do some porch surfing right outside your door.
