South Carolina is full of captivating charm. Leave her for even a weekend and you're likely to find yourself yearning for home. Somehow the sky seems a little more blue in the Palmetto State. South Carolina's seductive that way. She's enchanting and always calling you back no matter how long you're away. Here are some places and events in South Carolina that maybe you didn't know about. But once you do, maybe you'll add them to your list of (enchanting) places that call out to you when you're yearning for home.

1. Brookgreen Gardens - Murrells Inlet, SC

Located just off Coastal Hwy 17 in Murrells Inlet, SC, Brookgreen Gardens was the country's first sculpture garden. Roam freely among the garden and outdoor sculptures and then check out the petting zoo.

2. Station 12 beach access - Sullivan's Island, SC

The beach access to get to this spot is a bit of a secret unless you're a local. "How do I get there?" you ask. Take Middle Street to Station 12 and turn left immediately past the fort. Note: heavy currents make swimming on this part of the beach somewhat risky.

3. Glendale Shoals

You'll definitely want to bring the camera on this adventure. Glendale Shoals is just outside of Spartanburg at the site of the old Glendale Mill on Lawson's Fork Creek.

4. The annual Balloons Over Anderson Festival - Anderson, SC

Watch the balloons inflate and then lift off up to five times over the course of this weekend festival in Anderson. Oh, and if you play your cards right you may be able to get a ride in one of them...

5. Lake Oolenoy at Table Rock State Park

One of my favorite roads, scenic Highway 11 in the Upstate, crosses over the northern part of this 67-acre lake. Hiking trails here offer endless opportunities to find yourself a view just like this one at Lake Oolenoy.

6. Historic Georgetown, SC

The word "enchanting" seems to fall short in describing this perfect seaside town in South Carolina. Am I "enchanted" when I visit Georgetown? Yes, but I'm also enamored with its charm and how very real it feels.

7. A carriage ride in Charleston's Historic District

Enchanting and romantic!

8. Annual Blessing of the Hounds in Aiken, SC

This annual event is a tradition in Aiken and is held in Hitchcock Woods on Thanksgiving Day (weather permitting).

9. Biking in Sumter National Forest

10. Mepkin Abbey - Moncks Corner, SC

The community of Roman Catholic Monks at Mepkin Abbey is just outside of Charleston in Moncks Corner. For a small fee you can tour the beautiful gardens Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 - 3:00.

11. Peach blossoms in Aiken County, South Carolina

This looks....like a fairytale.

12. The Town of Cheraw, SC

Also known as "The Prettiest Town In Dixie," Cheraw is filled with tree-lined streets and smiling residents.

13. Liberty Bridge - Greenville, SC

The focal point for Greenville's Falls Creek Park, the Liberty Bridge is off the "enchantment" charts!
