The Golden Gate Bridge is by far San Francisco's most iconic and photographed landmarks. It can be seen from various parts of the city, but many have no idea where to get the best view of this stunning structure, also considered one of the "Seven Wonders of the Modern World." You can enjoy stunning views of the bridge from at least 10 points in and around San Francisco. The viewing spots noted below are all free and open to the public.
1. Battery Spencer: Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Conzelman Rd, Sausalito
Battery Spencer offers some of the best and most stunning close up views of the Golden Gate Bridge. There is a viewing platform at this site, which makes this an ideal spot for sunsets too.
2. On the Bay
Take a boat tour around the bay and start taking pictures. The under the bridge pictures are best on cruise tours like Red and White Fleet Cruise or Blue & Gold Fleet. The number of angles and perspectives on the Bay are endless, but just remember to dress in layers!
3. Land's End - Eagle's Point Trailhead: San Francisco
Go to the Eagle's Point trailhead of Lands End near Lincoln Park and marvel at the awesome views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Also, you can fairly good views along the Land's End, but the area around the top overlooking the Hidden Labyrinth at Lands End, Eagle's Point is ideal.
4. Crissy Field: 603 Mason St, San Francisco
Crissy Field is large and offers walking and cycling trails between the Marina Green and Fort Point, so the views in this area are all worthwhile. You'll get stunning views of the bridge if you explore the area.
5. Marshall's Beach: Langdon Ct, San Francisco
The view of the Golden Gate Bridge is stellar, however it requires a big of hiking and effort to reach Marshall's Beach. So, you'll have to climb over some slippery rocks to right under the Golden Gate Bridge, but the rocky view is more than worth it.
6. On the Golden Gate Bridge
Whether you walk or bike across the bridge, remember to always dress for the windy weather and take caution. The views from the bridge itself are mesmerizing and otherworldly as you walk across the bridge over the Bay.
7. Fort Point: Marine Dr, San Francisco
For a closer view of the bridge, head out to Fort Point, a fort accessible via the Marine Drive lot in Crissy Field. At Fort Point, you're only at a distance of 1.2 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge. The perspectives here are not as popular, but still fascinating.
8. Baker Beach: Gibson Rd, San Francisco
Baker Beach offers great views and atmosphere to the ever incredible Golden Gate Bridge. You'll not only get memorable views of the Golden Gate Bridge in the background, but gorgeous mountains and beaches as well. On a side note, Burning Man originated here before it became massive.
9. China Beach: 490 Sea Cliff Ave At El Camino Del Mar Sea Cliff, San Francisco
Go to China Beach in the Seacliff neighborhood and hike to a small area of sand with a picnic area for unobstructed views of the Golden Gate Bridge. However, we due caution that China beach is only accessible by a steep, paved drive or stairway of around 100 steps.
10. Kirby Cove: Kirby Cove Rd, Sausalito
Located on the other side of the bridge, Kirby Cove offers spectacular views of the city skyline, too. The closest (and by far coolest) view of the Golden Gate Bridge at Kirby Cove is the little swing on the beach.
