A hidden gem in Westerly, The Living Sharks Museum has an important mission: “to educate the public about the story of the shark through a visual record of their history, exploitation, and conservation.”

Billed as America’s First Shark History Museum, this unique Rhode Island destination gives visitors a glimpse into this fascinating fish through a variety of exhibits.

The Rhode Island Museum features a collection of shark fossils from more than 40 species that date back to prehistoric times.

America’s First Shark Museum also delves into the horrific story of the U.S.S. Indianapolis with exhibits that document what’s been called the worst shark attack in history. The submarine was attacked and sunk in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Hundreds are said to have died in shark attacks.
