This Old Fashioned Pretzel Shop In Pittsburgh Has Been Open Since 1927

Pittsburgh's all about food and tradition. Consider the cookie table as an example. But, that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Pittsburgh's rich culinary traditions, which include everything from fries on sandwiches to chipped ham. This old-fashioned, soft pretzel shop in Pittsburgh knows a little something about tradition. After all, it's been a Pittsburgh staple since 1927.

Sat along Carson Street in the South Side, The Pretzel Shop started with vendors selling the hand-twisted pretzels on Pittsburgh's many street corners.

Today, the storefront on the South Side still uses its original brick oven, which dates back to 1872, to bake its famous pretzels.

Of course, you can buy a traditional soft pretzel when you visit The Pretzel Shop, which accepts cash only. (However, an ATM is available onsite.)

But, you'll definitely want to check out the assortment of creatively delicious pretzels, such as the flavored pretzels. Flavored pretzels come in garlic, tomato basil, pepperoni mozzarella, and sugar and cinnamon.

Or, pair your pretzel with one of the dips - cheddar cheese, ranch, spicy mustard, or caramel.

Celebrating a special occasion, such as a 60th birthday or a Steelers Super Bowl appearance? Order one of the specialty pretzels. (Call ahead to talk to staff about your ideas and needs.)

And, if you're really hungry, try one of the pretzel sandwiches, available in ham and cheese, hot dog, and chicken salad. Breakfast sandwiches and pizza pretzels are also on the menu.

Add a steaming bowl of soup, potato salad, macaroni salad, or pasta salad to your meal.

Stop by the Pretzel Shop from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
