Gaze At The Stars Through Telescopes At Cherry Springs State Park In Pennsylvania This July
Cherry Springs State Park in Pennsylvania offers free stargazing events with telescopes under some of the darkest skies on the Eastern Seaboard.
Does it get any better than a summer evening in July in Pennsylvania? Sitting outside, watching the fireflies zip around, listening to crickets chirping, and gazing up at a starry sky. We usually savor those oh-so-fleeting summer nights. Now we can enjoy an evening of stargazing through telescopes at Cherry Springs State Park in Coudersport, Pennsylvania.
Known as having the darkest skies on the Eastern Seaboard, Cherry Springs State Park draws amateur and professional astronomers all year long. This July it will be hosting a free recurring event “Through Our Telescopes.”
The first edition of the month will be held on July 1 and feature the theme “Moon Watch.” Stargazers are invited to view the starry skies through the park’s telescopes.
A limited number of telescopes are available, so you’ll want to arrive early. All visitors are encouraged to come to the park before dark.
While viewing the nighttime sky, you'll learn about previous moon landings, the moon’s surface, and more.
Another theme for July, “Night Sky Basics” will provide an overview of the nighttime sky as you gaze up at the stars, the moon, and the planets.
If you’re planning to participate, arrive at the Night Sky Public Viewing Area at Cherry Springs State Park before it gets dark. Inclement weather, including thunder or rain, will result in the event’s cancelation.
Because limited seating is available, participants are encouraged to bring a blanket or a chair.
