Ride The Amtrak Through The Pennsylvania Countryside For Around $40 One Way

The Keystone Service by Amtrak offers a scenic and relaxing train ride through Pennsylvania, connecting Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Philadelphia.

Little compares to a leisurely drive through the Pennsylvania countryside, maneuvering along winding roads, stopping at roadside destinations, and maybe pulling over to explore a quaint small town. There’s only one downside to that leisurely drive. If we’re driving, we really don’t get the chance to admire the passing landscape. That’s what makes a ride aboard Amtrak so much fun; the Keystone Service, in fact, offers perhaps the best scenic train ride in Pennsylvania.

A day riding the rails means a whole lot of adventure, especially when that train shuttles you from Harrisburg to Philadelphia or vice-versa. Make a day or an overnight of it, if you’ve got the time.

The Keystone Service, which runs daily, travels from New York City to Harrisburg.

At just 105 minutes, the scenic train ride is short and sweet but offers you plenty of time to relax and recharge. If you’d prefer exploring Lancaster and its charming attractions, hop off the train in Lancaster.

The journey from Harrisburg to Lancaster is much shorter at just half an hour.

The relatively short ride from Harrisburg to Philadelphia means you’ll have plenty of time to get out and explore the city.

Spend some time exploring such popular destinations as Reading Terminal Market; stop by Penn’s Landing, or dig into a Philly cheesesteak at one of the city’s popular cheesesteak spots.

Ticket prices for the one-way ride from Harrisburg to Philadelphia start around $35. Only coach service is offered on this Amtrak line.

If you prefer traveling via business class, check out the Pennsylvanian, which offers routes from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh.
